SATURDAY 21st MAY 2011

On Saturday the new CUVZS committee organised a daytrip to a local falconry centre. The event was a great introduction to raptor care, management and husbandry. Raptors present included the Harris hawk, peregrine falcon, saker, eurasian kestrel and barn owl. There were even some chicks to help feed- a young barn owl and eurasian eagle owl!

Picking up and carrying were demonstrated and practised by the participants, and a flying display was given.
Feeding and weight managment and breeding were discussed, and the participants the techniques for imping, coping, casting, splinting and crop tubing.

All in all a fantastic day out, with alot learnt about these stunning birds.
